Technology innovation plays a critical role in creating the conditions that make sustainable economic growth and social development possible. Moreover, the Europe 2020 agenda puts ICT at the heart of Europe’s competitiveness. We believe that the goals of raising productivity and improving innovation output can be realized through the innovative use of ICT and specifically cloud computing.

This site offers a platform for debate around how best to advance the development of both technology and policy that will pave the road to a greener, healthier, more skilled & competitive, digital and entrepreneurial Europe.

We have structured our site in the following four topical sections, illustrating some of our key priorities:

• Digital Policy: We are working to ensure that new technologies and services evolve to meet the needs of Europe’s governments, economies and citizens. With key EU technology stakeholders we work to enable the most adequate policy framework conditions to take full advantage of the opportunities ahead. The debate mainly focuses on the following five policy areas: Intellectual property, interoperability, child online safety, privacy and security.
• Skills & Education: We believe that investing in skills and education is front and center to Europe’s ability to enhance workforce employability, innovate, and drive sustainable growth. This section highlights initiative and programs around up-skilling and innovative education, and offers views and examples from Microsoft as well as from multiple external experts and stakeholders.
• Entrepreneurship & SMEs: We are working to fuel the European economy by supporting SMEs and start-ups succeed. These young companies can help extend the reach of technology and create new opportunities for them, for Microsoft’s ecosystem, and society at large. In this section, you will find information on our programs with SMEs and start-ups, and hear first-hand success stories from small businesses as well as the challenges they face.
• Innovation in society: Through our investment in European Research & Development, we enable new software products and services, inspiring new ways of using efficient information technology solutions. In this section, you will find information on our research laboratories, joint ventures, development centres, and programs supporting innovation in key areas of socio-economic development in Europe, such as healthcare and environment and effective eGovernment solutions.
