Global Business Register (GBR) is an Irish company that in a short space of time has successfully deployed its online identity management products and services across Europe, the USA and is now expanding into other world regions. Using cloud technology, GBR has been able to scale and add to its portfolio of services, which all centre on helping people confirm the legitimacy of websites and the identity of companies operating on the Web. Built on the Windows Azure cloud platform, TrustPassport is designed to be a simple way to show visitors to a website that it is authentic and owned by a legitimate company.  In effect, it enables a level of trust to be achieved, something which is often a challenge in today’s online world. The Smartlogo feature within TrustPassport is an embedded ‘seal’ that cannot be replicated or removed.

Says Rob Leslie: “Back in the old days, people did business in their home town face-to-face with people they knew and trusted.  In today’s global business world, we need better ways to get to know each other and develop trust.  Connecting virtual identities to real identities for people and companies so they can trust each other, that is what GBR is all about.”

GBR chose to build TrustPassport and Smartlogo in the cloud because it enables the company to scale the availability of the service worldwide, without needing to invest time and money in building its own IT infrastructure. “We couldn’t have achieved so much in so little time, if we had not been on the cloud.  The payment model of the Azure cloud service means that we can pay for just for what we need and increase that as demand for our services grows.” With the Windows Azure cloud solution, GBR has achieved a cost-savings of over €10,000 to date.
