Diamante is a privately owned Italian company privately that provides full-featured accounting and business management solutions to small and medium businesses. The team at Diamante created AMBIENTE24, a waste management software application for public administrations, in response to the new European Community (EC) legislation concerning commercial waste management.

The new legislation requires that the process of commercial waste be managed through online communication between the companies producing the waste, the transportation provider, the recycling provider, and finally, with the systems used within the various Environmental Ministries within EC governments.

Although AMBIENTE24 initially ran from Diamante’s own data centre, it soon became clear that in order to achieve massive scalability with the highest standards of reliability, it was inevitable to make the shift to Windows Azure. This adoption was further influenced by the promise of business expansion at a pan-European level.

Today, AMBIENTE24 is only applied in Italy, due to the fact that this is the first country to adopt and enforce the new regulation. But as the legislation is to be adopted across Europe from 2012-2013, they eagerly seek to identify in-country partners to both localize and champion the solution.
