Event: Official opening - Cloud & Interoperability Center, 22 March

On March 22, the Microsoft Cloud and Interoperability Center was inaugurated in Brussels. Located at the heart of the European Institutions, the Center promotes cloud computing innovation in Europe by showcasing the latest technologies and solutions in areas such as education, health and e-government as well as advanced research projects. The Center provides support for public sector organizations and SMEs as they explore and adopt cloud technology, and as they create their own innovative solutions. The Center emphasizes interoperability and collaboration to make the most of information technology.
WHAT IS THE CLOUD AND INTEROPERABILITY CENTER?
It is part of the Microsoft Executive Briefing Center for European Innovation in Brussels, which also includes:
- Microsoft Innovation Center for Cloud Solutions, developed in partnership with the Brussels Regional Government
- Center of Excellence for Public Services and eGovernment Solutions
- School Technology Innovation Center
The Cloud and Interoperability Center hosts up to 15 cloud-based solutions developed by our partners across Europe. See 2 examples below:
- ‘First-Line Doctor-Patient Demonstrator, Steria’: The solution developed by Steria optimizes the communication between the first-line doctor and his patient by using the following Microsoft platforms: Azure, Healthvault and Windows 7 Mobile. (www.steria.com)

‘Venus-C Fire Risk Prevention Demo, University of the Aegean and Microsoft Research’: Initiated by the University of Aegean (Greece) and further developed by Microsoft EMIC, the demo provides a cloud-based tool to predict wildfire risk for any point on the island of Lesvos (Greece) based on an analysis of the metrological data and the vegetation and topographic models.
