Contributing to a “Better Climate” through Cloud Technology
With Eye On Earth providing near to real-time information on Water and Air quality, encouraging two-way collaboration with citizens, Environmental Atlas of Europe now extends our digital platform to educate on climate change. (See my previous post )
The Environmental Atlas of Europe, a new project resulting from our partnership with the EEA, in combination with the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and the European Space Agency (ESA), raises awareness of the impact of climate change by showcasing nine stories from eyewitnesses describing their first-hand experiences and how their communities have responded to changes in their environments.
Some stories showcase innovative solutions developed by local communities, such as the Danish town of Thisted, where energy consumption is nearly carbon neutral. Other stories take users to areas of severe environmental concern such as Finland’s Lapland region, where the local reindeer population has decreased by 90 percent in some places.
“Hopefully, by sharing these stories citizens will be inspired by what others are doing to help mitigate the impact of climate change and motivated to help find solutions for the challenges not yet addressed. “It’s not only politicians and industry that need to do something about this, but everyone.”
