Irish SME creates solution that allows anyone to build their own app

The SME receiving recognition for the month of August is JamPot Technologies, a company of 12 employees from Northern Ireland. JamPot invented an application that allows other companies and individuals to build their own mobile applications without needing any technical knowledge. JamPot’s innovations simplify the use of sophisticated technology, enabling any of us to create smartphone apps for any business or personal purpose.

JamPot was founded by three individuals with extensive software and mobile development experience. The company has witnessed incredible growth in just 18 months as a result of their innovative flagship technology, TheAppBuilder. This is a tool which enables individuals to avoid heavy investments in labor and technology in building their own mobile applications. JamPot provides this “freemium service” by operating on a cloud platform.

Founded in January 2011, JamPot Technologies has seen TheAppBuilder being used by over 35,000 people since its launch at Mobile World Congress 2012, with around 80% based in the United States. Widely featured and lauded by publications including Fast Company, Engadget, ZDNet and the BBC, their service was built on Windows Azure.

The Windows Azure platform delivers various features for TheAppBuilder including front end web and back end storage & scalability. In addition, the content delivery network ensures that JamPot’s global audience of app builders receives a seamless experience. The low capital expenditures associated with using a cloud platform also allowed JamPot to focus on creating a number of its own proprietary cloud services for the unique challenges involved in cross-platform app building.

With incredible growth and ease-of-use, TheAppBuilder stands above its competition by providing users with real time content and structure updates to their app. Whether they are businesses, organizations or individuals, users can log-in to the online editor to create customizable apps that can be delivered on a range of platforms including Windows Phone, iPhone/iPad, Android and HTML5. In fact the company is now bringing TheAppBuilder to smart TV, and will be launching a Windows 8 version ahead of its release in October.

JamPot Technologies’ cloud based solution was also recognized as People’s Choice Award winner at the BizSpark European Summit in June 2012.

Each month, to highlight the continuing growth of cloud services provided by European SMEs, we will feature in the Microsoft Cloud & Interoperability Centre in Brussels, the technology of another innovative, growing small business
