The internet can act as a platform for Europe’s innovation and imagination, but only if public confidence is maintained and cybercrime tackled effectively. We are helping to establish a trusted community across the internet, embracing people, data, software and hardware. Also, partnering with other leading technology companies, we have founded the ‘Trust in Digital Life’ partnership to define a vision for trustworthy ICT-related products, including devices, applications, services and infrastructures.

Technology is only part of the solution, with the consumer being at the heart of defense in depth. We work to ensure that security technologies are user friendly and work hand in hand with consumers, enabling productivity rather than impeding it.
Safeguarding the internet
The internet can act as a platform for Europe’s innovation and imagination, but only if public confidence is maintained and cybercrime tackled effectively.
End to End trust
We are helping to establish a trusted community across the internet, embracing people, data, software and hardware. It is defence in depth that we call End to End Trust. Achieving the vision requires a wide-ranging legislative framework that includes privacy policies, clear guidelines and robust national standards.
End to End Trust requires a simple, consistent and secure system to represent digital identity — controlled by users themselves. Credentica’s ‘U-Prove’ technology, now being integrated into Windows, establishes identity while using the absolute minimum data possible.
Partnering with other leading technology companies, we have founded the ‘Trust in Digital Life’ partnership to define a vision for trustworthy ICT-related products, including devices, applications, services and infrastructures.
Creating a secure computing ecosystem
Led by our Trustworthy Computing initiative (TWC), our product development is informed by the SD3 philosophy (Secure by Design, Secure by Default, Secure in Deployment) and combined with the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL), which ensures that every internet-facing and enterprise-class product from Microsoft is designed to withstand malicious attacks.
Sharing our expertise is important and we are part of the SAFECode partnership — where the software industry employs best practices to embed security in new technologies — and the Industry Consortium for the Advancement of Security on the Internet (ICASI), focusing on best practices in operational responses to cybercrime incidents.
But technology is only part of the solution, with the consumer being at the heart of defence in depth. We work to ensure that security technologies are user friendly and work hand in hand with consumers, enabling productivity rather than impeding it.
