Microsoft Advances Search Privacy with Bing

At her European Parliament hearing last week, Commissioner-Designate Viviane Reding mentioned online privacy as one of her key priorities.

And rightly so. Europeans are spending more and more time online, but the internet will fail to achieve its full potential if we lose trust in the privacy of personal information contained in our search queries. At Microsoft, we are committed to strengthening consumer confidence in the web by providing robust privacy protection for Bing users. Today I am pleased to announce that we will further reinforce our privacy protection measures by deleting the entire IP address from search queries at six months. This step results in no small part from our dialogue at EU level with European data protection regulators.
