A right to original software: Consumer Action Day

By: Cornelia Kutterer , Senior Policy Counsel

Last month we organized an event at the European Parliament hosted by Bill Newton-Dunn MEP on the occasion of a Microsoft worldwide campaign against counterfeit software with the real victim of counterfeits at its center - the end-consumer.

The lunch discussion went from the specifics of software such as potential threats to security, went on to the sustainability of the supply ecosystem and quickly focused on ways to change societal behavior and raise awareness amongst consumers about the threats, and to empower consumers to protect themselves against counterfeits. It will take the combined efforts of a wide array of stakeholders if it is to be dealt with successfully was the primer conclusion of the debate.

For that reason in particular, we were very pleased that a number of stakeholders from both public and private sectors attended the event. To top it off, they were also more than happy to go on camera and give their views! You can hear what they had to say by clicking below. Please feel free to leave a comment or ask a question: we’d be happy to respond.
