Microsoft on entrepreneurship and start-ups: video series
27 April 2010
As part of the Emerging Business team at Microsoft, I have been working closely with start-ups and entrepreneurs right across the world for quite a few years.

I am now producing a series of short video posts over the next couple of months in which I go into a little more detail to explain why it's so important for us to help foster entrepreneurship and start-ups, as well as explaining how a few of the programmes work and the opportunities available.
Here I talk about the BizSpark programme(www.microsoft.com/BizSpark/) which the Emerging Business team has been focused on for the past couple of years. The programme looks to help early stage start-ups by providing them with software and support when they need it most. Start-ups don't tend to fail because the idea underpinning the venture isn't smart; but because the company can't afford to invest in its IT set-up or to reach out to the people who need to hear about the big idea. That's where we can help. Hear me talk about the main principles behind the programme and our future investments in the local ecosystem - be it through educators, buyers, government agencies, investors, consultants, lawyers or banks - to help support entrepreneurs and start-ups.
