Views of an entrepreneur: cloud computing for a competitive and innovative Europe
03 May 2011
SMEs working in the ICT arena are very aware and started to take advantage of the significant
benefits in cloud computing - particularly how it can help drive efficiencies and make products and services available to a wider audience.

However, there are also some barriers which stop SMEs from making immediate use of the full potential of the cloud: data interoperability, perceptions of security and the ever-present questions relating to rules, regulations and legislation.
In this video, Donal Cullen - entrepreneur and CEO of Spanish Point Technologies, Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and World Partner of the Year - discusses his perception of the opportunities and challenges faced by SMEs in embracing cloud computing technology. He talks through a number of topics with us: the role of the cloud for small businesses, the obstacles that need to be addressed, the benefits of a single digital market in Europe, and the importance of carefully-considered privacy and data protection laws for businesses and digital consumers alike.
In addition to this, the way in which the SMEs can put their products in front of this large audience - dictated by broadband penetration in Europe - is also recognised as a vital part of the potential for success for SMEs working from cloud platforms. How can this be achieved? What progress has been made so far? And who needs to take the driving seat to ensure that citizens and consumers can reap the subsequent benefits of these changes in the ways businesses operate, thanks to technological innovation?
Do watch this video of Donal, because not only is he a great speaker on the topic, he’s talking from first-hand daily experience as an entrepreneur in Europe.
