Video interview: The role of ICT in reaching a low carbon economy
Climate change is a global problem and therefore requires a global answer, as rightfully stated by James Lovegrove in our video interview. James is the Managing Director of TechAmerica Europe, leading US high-tech companies operating in the EU. Indeed, answering the environmental challenges requires a unitary effort across industries, governments and citizens. Through his leadership TechAmerica Europe has been given UN Observer status to the climate change negations where he leads a delegation of companies to communicate the enabling potential of ICTs to reduce greenhouse gases and encourage energy efficiency.
TechAmerica is also leading Working Group 3 (WG3) of ICT for Energy Efficiency (ICT4EE) Forum. WG3 has a focus to analyze government policies and makes recommendations on how ‘green’ technologies can be adopted at an accelerated pace. The ICT4EE Forum as a whole aims at driving common methodologies for measuring and improving the energy and environmental performance of ICT processes, develop partnerships and projects, as well as share best practices across the ICT sector.
I am glad to have had the chance to discuss with James Lovegrove on the ICT4EE forum’s work on environmental sustainability and how he believes the technology sector can help enable solutions to address climate change and energy efficiency issues.
