An Agenda for new skills and jobs

The economic crisis and structural factors like globalisation, technological changes, ageing populations and the shift to a low-carbon economy are all contributing to rapid change in European labour markets, which is reflected in a new series of job profiles. As a result of this fast moving evolution, shortages of adequate skills in some sectors or occupations already co-exist with unemployment across the EU. This is particularly true for science and technology related occupations.

The European Commission’s flagship initiative ‘An agenda for new skills and jobs’  aims to help the EU reach its employment target for 2020: 75% of the working-age population (20-64 years) in work.

At Microsoft, we are working for the same goal by empowering youth with the right skills for the jobs of tomorrow. Looking at the agenda for new skills for new jobs, Microsoft stands ready to partner with the EU, national governments and stakeholders to realize the vision of a more inclusive, employable and competitive Europe.
