Event: European Employment Forum, Brussels, 22-23 November
The European Employment Forum 2011 is taking place in Brussels on the 22nd & 23rd of November in the frame of the Employment Week and is co-organized by the European Commission. The event will look at the labour market in the light of the significant changes that have taken place over the past few years in the global economy. Despite the often gloomy outlook, there are reasons for optimism, and many examples of excellent practice in Europe.
The discussion will focus on the following topics: youth employment, the agenda for new skills and jobs, the importance of SMEs in the labour market, opportunities for the ageing population, using employment as a route out of poverty, structural reform, flexicurity – a new momentum and Innovation Union.
Microsoft Europe with
John Vassalo, Microsoft Vice Presidency of EU Affairs, will open the ceremony for the 2011 Employability Awards, in recognition of the strongest EU job-readiness initiatives in Europe. The gala celebrates outstanding and effective uses of ICT training and skills development adapted by NGOs to raise employment prospects and improve digital and social inclusion. The European Employability Alliance will award three organisations with outstanding results in the following categories: Youth Empowerment through Skills, Active Aging through IT learning and Empowering Women through Technology.
John Vassalo, together with Minister Radoslaw Mleczko, Under Secretary of State, Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Poland and Koos Richelle, Director General,
DG Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion will give an overview on progress to date on achieving the Europe 2020 Strategy on "The Agenda for new skills and jobs" session. Are the targets looking achievable? What are the successes to date? What are the shortfalls? How successful was the Polish Presidency of the EU in working towards these goals? What are companies doing to improve the job market?
Microsoft will also be sponsoring the focus group segment of the conference, which aims to generate more in-depth conversations around employability in Europe. Conversation topics during this segment will be focused on exploring new labour frameworks and policies, sharing of best practices and projects around the region, and generating ideas on raising employability among youth and increasing overall workforce capacity.
