A collaborative framework for Innovative Education
08 September 2010
Innovation in technology has changed the way we access and consume knowledge! With this in mind there can be no greater impact than that on the delivery of education and the creation of an attractive learning path for students both young and old.

Microsoft Cyprus decided to explore this landscape by hosting an Innovative Education Forum which captured the interest and active support of Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism & Youth and Dr Andreas Demetriou, Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture. What was agreed upon by all stakeholders was that leadership and change needs to be driven in education. Commissioner Vassiliou made some poignant remarks around matching knowledge and skills to the market:

Working closely with the Ministry of Education and Culture and The Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, Microsoft has delivered seminars and workshops aiming to help educators adopt innovative methods of teaching and incorporate technology in the teaching process. It is this crucial change in the European landscape that needs to happen in order to deliver the competencies that will ensure the foundations for a smart, sustainable and inclusive model of growth for Europe.
Microsoft and other education stakeholders in Cyprus were encouraged as a result of the event to pay strong future focus to enhancing the IT knowledge of teachers in line with the work already carried out to date such as the Innovative Teachers forum and the Innovative Schools program which brings the application of technology related tools and skills into the classroom! The education authorities in Cyprus are firmly on-board with this program and have achieved fantastic outreach to all the schools in the country, including awareness-raising to educators and influential school leaders.
Building on this innovative education framework there will be an EU education roundtable hosted in Brussels on October 4th, please stay tuned! To find out more about the Partners in learning initiative which underscores this campaign please see here.
