Get ready for cloud technology!
Business is moving to the cloud. According to IDC* predictions for 2011, 80% of new software will be available as cloud services; by 2014, over one-third of software purchases will be delivered through the cloud.
As a key enabling technology, the promotion of cloud computing in Europe is therefore an important objective of the Digital Agenda
. European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes recently said “I want to make Europe not just Cloud Friendly but Cloud Active”. We need the right training platforms to make this a reality.
As a new branch of the economy, the cloud creates new opportunities and job roles but it also impacts current ones. Economists at the University of Milan led by Federico Etro in a 2010 Cloud computing simulation study estimated new and existing companies using cloud services could create up to 1.5 million new jobs in Europe in the next five years. How do we support this transition? Managers will indeed face the opportunity to optimize team performance by embracing shifting skill sets. Staying ahead of the skills curve is critical for both education providers and industry to align learning resources to Innovation in the market. Microsoft understands that IT professionals and developers will require additional skills to stay ahead and manage new demands. New certifications will help prove knowledge and skills to employers acting as a benchmark for professionalism.
New ‘future-ready’ workforce development training and skills resources are now available. We plan to address cloud in all of our technical certifications, from our introductory Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) program to our advanced certification programs:
New and updated certifications. Over the next year, Microsoft will introduce new cloud-related certifications and update many of its current certifications to include cloud-related skills.
New and updated training. Microsoft will provide training for these cloud computing offerings through Official Microsoft Learning products, including Microsoft Press books, Microsoft Official Courses, and Microsoft Official eLearning.
Build on-premise skills first. Microsoft recommends that IT Pros and Developers start by building skills that apply to both on-premise computing and cloud computing. Those who already have on-premise skills should enhance their skill set to include cloud computing.
Recertification required for Windows Azure Developer certification. To ensure that developers who hold the MCPD: Windows Azure Developer certification are keeping pace with the rapidly evolving cloud technologies, they will be required to recertify every two years. Recertification enables Microsoft to maintain the value of the certification as cloud services mature over time.
